It was nice to have a good win at the weekend. Not that winning or losing matters in the big picture (although it is important to get a decent number of wins along with some close loses, as this does help develop a stronger desire to improve - And getting this desire to improve is a huge milestone for all players to get to).
Almost all or our players are finding it hard to play with a 'locked open foot'. That is: control and pass the ball with the inside of the foot.
Players need to develop the strength and flexibility in their feet, knees and hips to lock the foot in an open foot position.
There is a bit of resistance from players to do this, as it requires thought, effort and some mental and physical discomfort. Doing it wrong is a lot easier for them to do. So i need your help.
Dads (and moms - lets not be sexist Darren!!) need to do technical work with their child. I call it 'Footwork 'Home' work' (as opposed to cone-work or wall-work) or maybe t should be called 'Parent power'. Parents initially are one of the most important catalyst in regards to a players development, if they are lucky enough to have a child who is keen to do a little bit of extra work (not all do).
Quick quetsion: Are you doing technical work with your child at home? This will help them to open and lock the foot (out) when controlling and passing the ball. I will send you a video soon showing you how to approach doing simple technical work with your child. You do not need to have any skill yourself and it can be done inside, and only needs to be done for a couple of minutes at a time.
In the meantime take a look at this
