Advanced players must be able to do all FFPs without too much trouble:
Coaching Advanced players at TST
Introduce a footwork topic
Adavnced players always have a topic linked to their footwork EG: Aggressive and defencive 1v1 moments ; and the footwork practice and the tech games are based on the topic and must accentuate the topic.
With very advanced players coaches always need to add the following :
- Head up on the ball: l Get the head up between touches [when there is a step (and no touch)] if the boys are nailing the pattern - which they should be as very advanced players. If they aren't then they are not advanced. If you have a way of testing whether the head is up (and seeing things) then use it.
- Maximum intensity on the ball : Players should be able to do all FFPs as fast as they can move their feet (if the ball wasnt there) so ensure the boys are working / moving their feet with maximum intensity during the foot work.
Tech Games for very advanced players must also therefore be include getting the head up, using vision and awareness to make decisions, as well as needing quick neat footwork.
Sessions format;
1. Isolate footwork
2. Play tech games
3. Play SSG (3v3s with specific rules)
