Drag Back U : DD : II : IsO : OsI [Week 5 T3 2019]

Footwork development never ends

Drag Back U

This week : Practice

4  (2 touch) fundamental footwork patterns

(which all start with an inside) using the Drag back U pattern.

The U shape is really important.
  • The forward touch is like a forward touch in a game (or a change of direction touch) which would lead into a pass, or another touch or a fake touch.
  • The drag back (shuffle) into another touch, which changes the direction of the ball, is a technique in it self.
  • The drag back can also represent a pass in a game from a teammate. Then the inside touch off the drag becomes a control/first touch (off a pass)
The Challenge
  • The challenge is to do 10 without stuffing up. Any speed.
  • Then the challenge is how quick can you do this.
  • Then can you do it this as quick again but with the head up

Improvise

  • Swap the drag with a pass out and then get the ball back :
    • Use a wall
    • Use a partner
    • Use a catcher / thrower
Have fun - it should be in the practice

Players who practice even just 5 minutes a day will accelerate past those that don't.
